Frequently asked questions
Donors:
How do you match teachers with donors to provide monitors? See the detailed description of how it works.
Is a second monitor still useful if teachers go back into the classroom soon? Many schools plan to continue at least some of their instruction online for some time. For example, a school might have a “hybrid” approach with some students in the classroom and some attending virtually. The second monitor can be used in the classroom to see the students who are attending virtually. Beyond the pandemic, a second monitor will continue to help teachers be more productive (similar to how I’m using two monitors right now to type this).
Why did you pick a 23” monitor? What about touch screens? We think a 23” monitor is the best value and most likely to fit on a teacher’s existing desk. We’re not offering a touch screen option yet because they are about $200 more expensive and we are trying to get monitors for as many teachers as possible.
What steps are you taking to reduce fraud? We’re only allowing monitors to be shipped to school addresses. We verify the school address by asking the donor to Google the address and confirm it’s a real school.
Can I help teachers at low-income schools? We’re asking teachers who sign up whether they teach at school where the majority of students are on free or reduced price lunches (FRPL). Soon, we’ll be able to let donors choose to donate to teachers at low-income schools.
Can I make a cash donation? Not quite yet. We are working on getting a fiscal sponsor so that you can make a cash donation to buy a teacher a monitor. Please fill out our cash donation form to be notified when we can accept your donation. Cash donations will help us buy monitors in bulk and hopefully buy monitors for entire school districts.
Can I donate more than one monitor? Yes, we recommend you start by purchasing one monitor for a teacher. After that, you can fill out the Buy Teacher a Monitor form again.
Teachers:
Can you ship the monitor to my home address? We realize it’s more convenient for some teachers to have the monitor shipped to their home, and we’re working on a safe way to do that. If you can’t have packages delivered at school, sign up for our home shipping waitlist.
What video cable do I need to connect my second monitor? We help you pick the right video cable for your computer. You do not need any other special equipment.
Our future plans:
Let donors request to be matched with a nearby teacher.
Let donors specify teachers at low-income schools.
Support for more countries.
